A unique handball coach programme
On the handball coach programme at ISI Sports Folk High School, you combine your DHF (Danish Handball Federation) coaching education with the skills and personal development that are also part of the unique value of a folk high school stay. You won't find that quality combination anywhere else.
On the handball coach programme at ISI Sports Folk High School, the key and essential aspects of being a handball coach come together: the professional handball side and the human side of the role.
Here, you'll receive a DHF-certified education as a division coach - along with personal development and a wealth of new insights gained through exciting and inspiring activities as part of folk high school life. Among other things, you'll explore questions such as: Who am I? Who are the others? How do you motivate and strengthen a community? This helps you build your people skills on professional knowledge rather than gut feeling.
Together, these are crucial elements for succeeding as a handball coach.
A year full of handball coaching highlights
As a student on the handball coach programme, you can already start looking forward to what's ahead. As part of the upcoming student team, you'll get up close with Ikast Håndbold's head coach on match day. You'll be there before, during and after a league match - giving you rare behind-the-scenes insight that very few people ever get access to.
The study trip on the handball coach programme goes to Füchse Berlin - one of the top teams in the Bundesliga, which traditionally features several Danish national team profiles in the squad.
For most visitors, the club is off-limits, but as a student on the handball coach programme you'll gain access to, among other things, Füchse's training facilities and match arena. We'll meet the Danish players, watch them train and experience the intense atmosphere of a Bundesliga match.

Handball coach and folk high school life combined
THEORY
Both the theorical and practial parts of the programme take place together with the other handball coach students, while still keeping an individual focus. We do this to support your personal development as a coach and leader - and your work with players in a team sport.
On the theoritical side, you'll gain a strong and relevant insight into every aspect of being a coach. We spend time discussing the coaching role, talent development and new international trends in handball.
As a result, you'll develop a clear handball philosophy that gives you a professional foundation for working with different teams and target groups - at both grassroots and elite levels.
We also gather inspiration through visits to handball environments and by inviting relevant and inspiring guest teachers to the school.
Through the many other elective subjects at the folk high school, you'll be introduced to a wide range of new perspectives, inspiration, collaboration, community and - most importantly- selv-awareness. As a person, you'll be challenged to take new paths, step into the spotlight and put the community before yourself.
All of this can be turned into personal skills that will be valuable for you as a coach - for example, the difficult conversation with a player, the challenging talk with parents and the important work of building the teamwork a squad needs. In other words: everything that makes a complete coach.
DHF DIVISION COACH EDUCATION
During your stay, you will complete DHF's Divison Coach courses (150 lessons). This course is the first step toward the elite coach education programme and represents a value of DKK 25.500.

TRANSITION AND THE VALUABLE ISI-NETWORK
When you finish your folk high school stay, you'll be well prepared for your future - both professionally and personally.
Over the years, we have build a broad, strong network around handball and the coach programme at ISI. We use this network as much as possible - for the benefit of both clubs looking for educated and qualified coaches and for you if you're eager to keep developing as a coach.
In addition, twice a year we invite current and former coaching students to meet - among other things, to exchange experiences and discuss new trends in coaching.
Internship on the handball coach programme
As a student on the handball coach programme, you'll be connected with a team in one of the many local handball clubs, so you maintain daily contact with the club environment.
The hands-on experience from the court provides input for the theory lessons in the classroom and when your stay ends, you'll leave the folk high school with plenty of coaching experience in your bag. We cover topics such as plyometric training - special exercises designed to produce the greatest possible force in the shortest possible time - the handball player of the future, injury prevention training and much, much more.
Alongside this, you'll have the opportunity to experience life on the sideline in one of Denmark's strongest handball environments: Ikast Håndbold. Here, you'll get close to the club's talent development, gain insight into its training methods and enjoy free access to the club's home matches.

The facilities at ISI
From ISI Sports Folk High School, you have access to outstanding handball facilities in Denmark.
For example, there are no fewer than six sports halls in the area - including IBF Arena, where the league players from Ikast Håndbld also train and play matches.
In addition, you have access to ISI's strength training room as well as the gym facilities at the arena, which we share with, among others, the handball league players.
You can also choose to combine your indoor physical training with outdoor challenges at one of the country's newest and most innovative actitivy and training areas, Ikast Complete, located just across the street.
Here, a grass-covered hill rises up and features, among many other things, built-in running tracks with curves, stairs for stair workouts, areas for interval training, foot tennis, a balance zone, chill-out zones for stretching, trampolines and climbing areas.

TRAVEL THE WORLD
The trip for the handball coach programme is a fun and exciting trip in the spring semester where we'll travel to Berlin together with the students from the handball programme. A city filled with a lot of cultural and historical experiences.
Furthermore, we get to experience handball on the highest international level. We have been given exclusive access to visit the Bundesliga club Füchse Berlin, which traditionally has several Danish national team players in their squad. For regular tourists, the club is closed off - but on our trip, you'll get unique access to the club, its training facilities and its match arena. We'll meet the Danish players for an informal talk about life as a professional handball player in Germany, watch a training session and experience the intense atmosphere at a Bundesliga match.
In the autumn semester, the whole school travels together to the Spanish volcanic island of Lanzarote and one of the world's best sports playgronds for active people: Club La Santa Sport. Here, we spend a full week training and exploring amazing facilities that offer exciting alternative sports challenges. We swim, surf, practise yoga, do athletics, cycle on the roads or across volcanic landscapes and hike on volcanoes.
In the spring semester, the school trip goes to Uganda. Together with the locals, we take part in sports and experience Ugandan culture up close. We meet young people, visit families and schools and go on safari. The trip is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to experience the adventure of a lifetime and truly discover the country and its culture - arranged in close collaboration with local partners.
